WEZER BRIDLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is named in honour of Clarence (Wezer) Bridle, who in the world of volleyball has truly done it all. Wezer started the Bandits in the 1970’s with his brother Charles, his sons and nephews. His passion centred around the development of youth through participation in sport, mainly volleyball, with the belief that sport brought opportunity and character development. In the 1950’s Wezer brought together high school to form the “Central Y Kids”. In 1965 he coached a group from the Y to Manitoba’s 1st junior national championship.

Wezer eventually went on to become the 1st president and lifetime member of the MVA. He was inducted into the Manitoba Sport Hall of Fame, Canadian volleyball Hall of Fame, and the Wesmen ring of honour.

Wezer coached the University of Winnipeg mens team to their 1st national title in 1969. He became a renowned national referee and had the privilege of reffing at 2 olympics. Wezer would be extremely proud and honoured to know that Bandits Volleyball continues to promote youth development and opportunity through this scholarship.
